"If you get the toilets right you get the teaching right ," - BSF (Building Schools for the Future)
An expansion was essential for a new classroom and a block of toilets at a local school. Due to the schools high standards and achievements in Ofsted inspections and reports, it became very attractive to parents who wanted their children to attend. The classroom was relatively straightforward; the challenge was elsewhere. Studies have shown that a lot of bullying and misbehaviour occurs in the toilets. As the school was to lose their wet area to make way for the toilets, a communal basin area was suggested as a flexible space where it could be used for many purposes and the children could be monitored. This halves the unmonitored space, to improve the children’s behaviour.
